PARTNERS IN CHANGE is Delta's annual gathering of green trailblazers to celebrate recent achievements, recognize partner contributions and discuss emerging opportunities for developing the region's green economy. Enjoy a meeting of the minds with 400+ members of the region's dynamic sustainability community.

Keynote Speaker: Shelley R. Poticha

Senior Advisor for Sustainable Housing and Communities, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

Ms. Poticha will discuss how the federal government's new "Sustainable Communities" partnership between HUD, the EPA and the U.S. Department of Transportation could impact the regional green economy. Ms. Poticha serves as Senior Advisor for Sustainable Housing and Communities at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). A well respected expert in growth management and urban policy, Poticha will be responsible for advancing housing and communities that promote affordable, livable and sustainable living environments. She will also provide technical and policy support for energy, green building, and integrated housing and transportation programs at HUD and around the nation. Poticha will also lead HUD's interagency effort with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation to help improve access to affordable housing, more transportation options, and lower transportation costs while protecting the environment in communities nationwide.

Poticha previously served as President and CEO of Reconnecting America, where she became a national leader for the reform of land use and transportation planning and policy with the goal of creating more sustainable and equitable development. Her work stimulated a national conversation about the role of transit in shaping communities and the importance of building diverse and inclusive neighborhoods.

Trailblazer Award: Manny Flores

This is a new award for Delta to express our appreciation and recognition of those blazing the trail to the Green Economy. Delta will award our first "Delta Trailblazer" award to Manny Flores for his forward thinking programs and policies he brought to the City of Chicago while Alderman of the 1st Ward. During his two terms, Flores distinguished himself as a champion of progressive public policy. He introduced and passed legislation in the areas of consumer protection, land-use and development, banking, healthcare, and government operations/management. Flores also initiated sustainable development measures to address environmental protection and economic development. He spearheaded the Green Exchange development, which is a first of its kind green business community designed to promote sustainable building practices and a green economy. He also founded the GreenEconomyChicago.com website which creates on-line community to identify and prioritize green policy ideas in Chicago. Mr. Flores left his post as Alderman of the 1st Ward in January 2010 to Chair the Illinois Commerce Commission

Partner in Change Award: OAI, Inc.

Delta will continue our tradition of recognizing a Delta partner by awarding the "Partner in Change Award" to OAI, Inc. OAI and Delta have partnered on job training programs in weatherization and deconstruction. OAI's mission is to create a community environment in which all people who desire to do so can access education, training, work, and housing that will allow them to sustain and enjoy safe, secure and fulfilling lives. They train over 2,500 people a year and are pioneers in Green Collar Job training. In addition to their work with Delta, OAI has worked with the City of Chicago on the Green Corps program, developed a model programs for safety, brownfield remediation and minority worker training, and has created an innovative partnership with Cob Connection to develop an Urban Agroforestry demonstration project in Chicago's Humboldt Park.
