Delta Weatherization Program
The Delta Weatherization Program, funded by the City of Chicago Department of Environment and the State of Illinois, seeks to weatherize 79 homes in West Garfield Park, Grand Crossing, and the City of North Chicago.
Eligibility
Low to moderate income homeowners of detached homes (up to four units) who meet the HUD Low-Income (80%) Limits and are within the City of Chicago or the City of North Chicago are encouraged to apply provided they meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Fill out and return the application with COPIES of appropriate attachments. We are not responsible for originals submitted with the application.
- Fill out and return the ComEd Release Form and Peoples Gas Release Form. We will use information on your electric and gas bill to determine the effectiveness of the weatherization work.
- Attend a homeowner workshop to learn about the program and energy efficiency.
Once an applicant has applied, a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Rater will visit the home to audit it. The process takes 1-2 hours and involves depressurizing the house using a blower door, and, if applicable, pressurizing the heating ducts. The HERS Rater may also use a thermal camera to check for air leakage.
The HERS Rater will recommend to Delta Institute the most cost effective weatherization methods for your home. You will not receive a bill from the HERS Rater. We will be paying them directly.
When we have received a list of weatherization methods most recommended for your home, we will contact a weatherization contractor to perform the work. We will specify the work to be done. You will enter into an agreement with the contractor in which the contractor will agree to perform the work specified by Delta, and the contractor will be paid directly by Delta. You should not receive a bill for these services. Any of the following weatherization measures may be performed on your house.
