Delta Weatherization Program
The Delta Weatherization Program, funded by the City of Chicago Department of Environment and the State of Illinois, seeks to weatherize 120-150 homes in the City of Chicago Cook County limits and the City of North Chicago.
Eligibility
Low to moderate income homeowners of detached homes (up to four units) who meet the HUD Income (120%) Limits (PDF) or up to $60,000 for one person in a home and are within the City of Chicago or the City of North Chicago are encouraged to apply provided they meet the following eligibility requirements:
| Step 1: | Completed and filled out APPLICATION (PDF) with copies of the required documents attached and returned to us at 53 W. Jackson Blvd., Ste. 230 Chicago, IL 60604 or emailed to weatherization@delta-institute.org. (We are not responsible for originals submitted with the application and will not be returning the information mailed to us.) Delta’s weatherization program is based on first come first served basis. Once we reach our quota, we will begin accepting applications for the next year. For more information, please feel free to contact us at: 312-554-0900 x 10 or email us at weatherization@delta-institute.org. |
| Step 2: | Attend a homeowner workshop to learn about the program and energy efficiency. NEXT Workshop: 12/1 at Mount Vernon 9011 S. Stony Island Ave. 6-9pm. Contact us about future workshops. |
| Step 3: | Once an applicant has been approved, a certified Energy Auditor will visit the home to audit it. The process takes 1-2 hours and involves depressurizing the house using a blower door, and, if applicable, pressurizing the heating ducts. The certified Energy Auditor may also use a thermal camera to check for air leakage. |
| Step 4: | The certified Energy Auditor will recommend to Delta Institute the most cost effective weatherization methods for your home. You will not receive a bill from the certified Energy Auditor. We will be paying them directly. |
| Step 5: | When we have received a list of weatherization methods most recommended for your home, we will contact a weatherization contractor to perform the work. We will specify the work to be done. You will enter into an agreement with the contractor in which the contractor will agree to perform the work specified by Delta, and the contractor will be paid directly by Delta. You should not receive a bill for these services. Any of the following weatherization measures may be performed on your house. |

Delta Institute Appliance Program
Delta Institute Appliance program assists households with income below 80% of the Average Medium Income levels or $42,000 for a household of one. Delta will replace existing older, inefficient appliances. These appliances will be given in exchange for more efficient Energy Star appliances, and the old appliance will be properly recycled as part of the program. The program offers refrigerator and both window and central air conditioning units. Energy star does not rate an efficient stove and we unable to offer washers and dryers at this time. Remember, you must offer the existing appliance for recycling in order to receive the new appliance.
