What's going on at Delta
and who's helping make it happen
It’s almost June – although you wouldn’t know it by the weather – and the Delta Emerging Leaders (DELs) are gearing up for BOOST 2015! BOOST, Building Opportunities for Original and Sustainable Thinking, is the DEL’s most ambitious project: a live, crowd-funded pitch fest in support of energy, ecosystem, and waste innovations. BOOST creatively engages Chicagoans to invest in local projects that will make a difference in communities across the city.
So, how does it work?
Social entrepreneurs with unique and innovative projects pitch their concepts to a live audience at the BOOST Pitch Night. Audience members vote for two winning innovators who split the BOOST award, funds raised by the Delta Emerging Leaders as well as the night’s ticket sales, to fund their startups. BOOST’s community-driven approach to financing social ventures overcomes a funding barrier for local entrepreneurs and engages hundreds of people to directly invest in the future of our city. In addition to the unrestricted funding, BOOST applicants are also offered in-kind services from the BOOST community.
Past winners have used BOOST funds to bring a waste compost club and backyard farming business to scale. To date, the DELs have raised approximately $25,000 towards BOOST and 2014 winners were awarded grants of $4,000 each. Applications for BOOST 2015 are live! If you are an innovator, environmentalist or an all-around go-getter whose business focuses on achieving local impacts by exploring the sectors of energy, waste or ecosystems in Chicago – apply to pitch at BOOST today! Applications close 9.18.15.
BOOST’s identity is founded in community and we need YOU to spread the word! Share this project with the innovators in your life! BOOST is a project of the Delta Emerging Leaders, an associate board of the Delta Institute that empowers young leaders to advance innovation and sustainability in Chicago.
