What's going on at Delta
and who's helping make it happen
Once again, it’s time for our Driven Doer series! This is where we highlight the passionate, motivated people who help advance Delta’s mission of achieving a resilient Great Lakes environment and economy.
This month, we are happy to introduce you Veronica Kyle, a long-time partner and colleague of Delta.
What do you do?
I am the Chicagoland Outreach Director for Faith in Place.
What drives you and inspires you to get up in the morning?
I am driven by the need to connect people to opportunities (to make themselves and their communities better) that they might otherwise never know exist.
We live in such a segregated city where very often access to resources, information and opportunities are not well distributed.
How did you first get involved with Delta?
When I became to work with Faith in Place we were approached by Delta to collaborate to bring an energy saving retrofit weatherization program to Chicagoland property owners with working to middle class incomes. It was an incredible success and together we were able to see over 300 residences retrofitted with energy saving insulation, appliances, heating and cooling systems.
In addition, I was renovating my home and learned of the Rebuilding Exchange which was a part of Delta. Through the RX I was able to find the most incredible supplies (building materials obtained from deconstructed properties that might have been otherwise dumped in our landfills) to renovate my home. From my beautiful kitchen cabinets, my bamboo bathroom flooring, a gorgeous staircase to my fabulous lighting; it all came from the RX.
It’s a best kept secret that need to desperately get out to every community in Chicago!
Delta in 4 words or less:
Young, Hip, Geeky-Cool (can I say that?), and Forward-thinking
Favorite place in the Great Lakes region:
Right in my own neighborhood; the prairie and fire pits behind the South Shore Cultural Center beach. You can hang out there from morning til moonlight; watch the sunrise, sunset and moon rise sitting around a giant fire pit. Oh, did I mention you can see the entire Chicago skyline and fireworks from there? Oops, now my secret is out….hope to see you there.
