What's going on at Delta
and who's helping make it happen
Delta Institute is pleased to recognize Willie Winters by thanking him for his many years of collaboration and friendship. We congratulate Winters on his retirement from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office RENEW program.
Winters contacted Delta Institute in 2013 to discuss a deconstruction program for Cook County Jail post-release participants. Through Winters’ passion and resourcefulness, the RENEW program was created.
RENEW created an opportunity for meaningful skill building for post-release participants, providing skill development in construction, safety, material management, team building and relevant certifications while managing blighted structures that fostered crime. Five years later, 200 structures have been deconstructed, tons of materials have been reused or donated to nonprofits, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office is regarded as an expert in deconstruction training.
Willie Winters represents the best of project partners and community partners. Winters is a staunch advocate for the Southside as a longtime Beverly resident. He serves on the Beverly Arts Center Board and served as Executive Director for the Beverly Area Planning Association. Previously, Winters worked with the City of Chicago Mayors Office of Special Events and is credited with developing Chicago’s Celtic Fest.
