In an article published in the Chicago Tribune, written by investigative environmental reporter, Michael Hawthorne, shares how Delta Institute along with four community groups, are working to gather data and monitor air-quality in four Chicago neighborhoods. Chicago based community groups involved in the project include, Alliance for a Greener South Loop, Southeast Environmental Task Force, Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO), and People for Community Recovery Illinois.
The article follows Alliance for a Greener South Loop as they use inexpensive, personal air quality monitors to gather data in the South Loop neighborhood on a warm October afternoon. Delta launched this effort in 2016 with University of Illinois at Chicago, Respiratory Health Associate of Metropolitan Chicago, and Kansas State University.
Winter air quality monitoring begins in the coming months, so please keep an eye out on our blog for updates as we learn more.
