SUMMARY:Michigan Soil Health Land Valuation Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Delta Institute has spent the last several years engaging landowners\, land managers\, and farmers to implement conservation practices on working lands in Michigan to improve environmental outcomes. \nMichigan farmers may improve soil health and protect local water quality by adopting soil conservation practices\, such as cover crops or no-till. However\, financial uncertainties associated with land management changes may prevent some farmers from adopting these practices. \nJoin us on Zoom for the kick-off of an innovative pilot program!\nTherefore\, Delta Institute is working with Michigan farm appraisers and soil conservationists to factor measurements of soil health into the land valuation process. If soil health can be considered as a property characteristic by appraisers\, Michigan farmers may be incentivized to adopt soil conservation practices to increase the value of their land. \nWe are grateful to the Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation for generously supporting our soil health and land valuation efforts in Southeast Michigan. \nRegister for a 45 minute webinar on May 2nd to learn more! \n \n Register Today!\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Interested in learning more about the initiative?\nClick the link below to visit our project page. \n \n Learn more

SUMMARY:Delta Emerging Leaders' Earth Day Recruitment Info Session
DESCRIPTION:Interesting in volunteering on the Delta Emerging Leaders associate board? Meet the rest of the DELs at our recruitment info session! This will be a casual\, virtual networking session where you can meet the current DELs and ask any questions about volunteering or applying. (Attendance is 100% optional – you are welcome to apply regardless if you can make it to one of our recruitment sessions.) \nLooking forward to meeting you!  \n \n Register\n \n \n \n \n \n More Info about Serving on the Delta Emerging Leaders Associate Board\nThe Delta Emerging Leaders (DELs) serve as the official associate board of Delta Institute and advance Delta’s mission by expanding its network of supporters\, donors\, and partners through events and initiatives that engage new and diverse audiences. For example: \n\nOrganizing the annual BOOST program for emerging entrepreneurs in sustainability: The DELs host an annual live\, crowd-funding pitch competition called “BOOST” (Building Opportunities for Original & Sustainable Thinking) for sustainable start-up businesses that help make Chicago a thriving\, environmentally conscientious city to live and work in. BOOST brings together social entrepreneurs with unique and innovative projects to pitch their concepts to a live audience. Audience members vote with their ticket contributions to determine winners who each receive small business grants. Grant funds are raised by the Delta Emerging Leaders through sponsorship and ticket sales.\nPlanning for our annual Green Soapbox panel discussion: The DELs also host the annual Green Soapbox event each Spring\, convening regional experts to discuss a pressing environmental topic in a virtual setting. We have been fortunate to have heard\, and learned\, from many sustainability thought-leaders on an array of topics facing our region. Recordings of past Green Soapbox Events are hosted on Delta Institute’s YouTube channel.\n\nThe DELs serve one-year\, renewable terms that begin on July 1 of each year. All DELs participate in at least one standing committee: BOOST\, Green Soapbox\, or Outreach. The DELs meet once per month\, mostly virtually\, throughout the year\, and committee meetings are typically held once per month as well\, though some months may be more or less busier than others. All DELs are expected to engage in fundraising for both BOOST and Green Soapbox. All DELs are also expected to make a financial contribution during their term of any amount that is meaningful to them; there is no minimum amount.  \nHow to Apply\nApplications to join the DELs this year go live on March 27\, 2025\, and are due on May 1\, 2025. Click here to apply.

SUMMARY:Green Soapbox Panel Discussion: Scaling Sustainable Foodways in the Midwest
DESCRIPTION:For nearly 15 years\, Delta Institute has hosted “Green Soapbox” events as opportunities to connect the community with expert panelists on a wide array of critical climate conversations. This fall\, we will be exploring the topic of Scaling Sustainable Foodways in the Midwest. \nAbout this year’s topic\nFood plays a vital role in our lives—and it is also one of the most consequential factors in the fight against climate change. In the United States\, the agriculture sector contributes about 11% of the country’s overall greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore\, about 30-40% of all food that’s produced in the US ultimately ends up as food waste! \nOn October 16\, expert speakers will join us to discuss how to scale regenerative agriculture to overcome climate challenges and embrace innovations to the food system\, including aspects that address soil health\, food waste\, and more. Join us for food and drinks as we discuss sustainable food technologies\, impacts on agriculture\, and everything else you might want to know about how local food systems are adapting to today’s climate challenges.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Meet the panelists:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Rodger CooleyExecutive Director\, Chicago Food Policy Action Council \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Valentine EspinozaSoil Health Organizer\, Advocates for Urban Agriculture \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mike Harrington\, LEED GADirector\, Sustainability Engagement at The Tishman Environment and Design Center at The New School \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Jennifer StewartLead Programs & Partnerships Steward\, Grow Greater Englewood \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Click here to read more about each of our panelists in our press release announcement. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Organized by the Delta Emerging Leaders\nGreen Soapbox is organized by the Delta Emerging Leaders associate board of Delta Institute. SUMMARY:DELs Recruitment Info Session #2
DESCRIPTION:The Delta Emerging Leaders (DELs) serve as the official associate board of Delta Institute and advance Delta’s mission by expanding its network of supporters\, donors\, and partners through events and initiatives that engage new and diverse audiences. They organize and plan organizational events annually\, including Delta Institute’s Green Soapbox panel discussion and BOOST competition for emerging green entrepreneurs. \nDelta Emerging leaders serve one-year\, renewable terms beginning July 1 each year. The DELs meet as a board monthly (mostly virtually with a couple of hybrid options in Chicago each term). All DELs also participate on one of four committees: Executive\, BOOST\, Green Soapbox\, or Outreach. While there is no set minimum contribution to serve on the DELs\, we ask all DELs to donate at least once annually\, giving an amount that is meaningful to them. \nApply to join between April 1 – May 4\, 2026\nIf you or someone you know is interested in joining the Delta Emerging Leaders associate board\, you are welcome to join us at a recruitment info session online. This is a relaxed opportunity to connect with other DELs\, learn more about the work of the board\, and bring your own questions about membership. Register for the info session below. Ready to apply to the DELs now? Click here apply by May 4\, 2026. \n \n Register for the Info Session
