An article published in the Post-Tribune reports on a recent resident meeting in Gary, Indiana to design a 3-acre plot of land. The site was formerly a stocking factory, Bear Brand Hosiery Co., and has the potential to feature public art and attractive landscaping.
With support from the U.S. Forest Service Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and the Legacy Foundation, Delta Institute partnered with the city of Gary, Indiana and Fresh Coast Capital LLC to transform the vacant property into a park by planting trees that would improve soil quality on the degraded site.
Thus far over 300 trees have been planted on the site.
