The past few weeks have highlighted many ways in which inequity persists throughout every facet of society. As a nonprofit devoted to addressing complex environmental, economic, and social challenges, it is impossible for us at Delta Institute to advocate for environmental justice without also calling out systemic racism as well as continued discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community—especially the African-American trans community.
We stand in solidarity with everyone commemorating this year’s Pride Month. And similar to how Delta Institute will continue to support the Black Lives Matter movement and restorative justice regardless if it is in the headlines or not, we at Delta will continue to support the LGBTQ+ community every month throughout the year beyond Pride Month.
Including all the voices in each of our communities–including those from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community–is a vital, non-negotiable component of the environmental justice movement. We are committed to helping create a Midwestern region where all communities and people thrive.
