Nature-Based Climate Solutions

Delta Institute works with communities throughout the Midwest to reduce flooding and improve water quality, by working with—rather than against—nature.

We’re helping our neighbors increase their resiliency and address our changing climate in the Midwest via:

Flooding and Extreme Weather Mitigation

Green Infrastructure Installation

Forest Canopy Expansion

Land Re-Naturalization and Restoration

Lake Calumet site visit

Getting water to where it needs to be, while promoting community vitality.

Delta Institute provides engaging, comprehensive project management for Green Infrastructure and land restoration to our many municipal and community partners.

OUR IMPACT

More than 193M Stormwater Gallons captured/treated since 2020

Delta’s many projects have captured nearly 200M gallons of stormwater annually since 2020, including some of our notable restoration and tree canopy projects that we’ve successfully implemented in Lake County, IN; Hobart, IN; Michigan City, IN; and Chicago’s South Side.

More than 30 Community Partners and 144,800+ Acres

Delta’s Nature-Based Climate Solutions portfolio has installed Green Infrastructure, managed complex restoration projects, and renaturalized significant acreage across our many partner communities.

More than 4,000 Trees Planted

One of the simplest solutions to localized flooding is trees (when properly installed, maintained, and stewarded, of course). Delta provides concepting services, implementation management, and long-term stewardship/maintenance to our partners, through the omnipresent lens of community engagement and feedback. The trees we plant today are meant to thrive now, and for generations ahead.

Keeping pollutants and toxins out of our water supply

Delta’s projects focus on keeping our groundwater and waterways clean and healthy, by measuring avoided pollutants such as Phosphorus, Nitrogen, E.coli, and sediment kept from entering watersheds by our projects.
