When it comes to making an investment this upcoming Earth Day, consider investing in our home: the Midwest.
At Delta, we not only work with large urban communities on projects that reduce municipal flooding, solid waste, and air pollution, but we also partner with small rural communities of 1,000 or less to advance innovations in land conservation. Each of our projects ultimately helps create a region where all people and landscapes can thrive, making your support a truly impactful investment in creating a thriving Midwest.
As this year’s Tax Day passes us by this week, please join us in commemorating this year’s Earth Day. If you’re still thinking about that check you had to write for Tax Day–or how you could best spend your tax refund–did you know that, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Delta Institute can help reduce your tax burden for next year while also putting your philanthropic investment immediately to work in helping create strong, resilient communities throughout the Midwest?
Consider all your giving options now to make an impactful, tax-deductible gift in support of addressing complex environmental challenges in the Midwest:
Become a monthly sustainer
Several of our supporters make smaller monthly donations that add up over time for a larger, more impactful gift. Check the box for “Make this donation recurring” on our donate page to begin giving monthly today!
Donate gifts of stock and appreciated securities
In addition to claiming a charitable tax deduction for your gift, by donating gifts of stock directly to Delta, you may be able to avoid paying capital gains taxes.
Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution from your retirement account
Also known as the “IRA Charitable Gift Rollover,” this allows supporters at least 70½ years of age to donate directly through their IRAs without needing to claim the distribution as taxable income.
Leave a lasting legacy for the Earth
By naming Delta Institute as a beneficiary in your will, life insurance policy, or retirement account, you can make a long lasting impact in addressing the environmental challenges of the future. Click here to learn more.
CARES Act “Above-the-line” Charitable Tax Deduction Extensions
Extensions of the CARES Act have made it possible for donors who normally claim the standard deduction to also claim a charitable gift deduction for donations made to eligible nonprofits like Delta. For the 2021 tax year (to be filed in 2022), single taxpayers can deduct up to $300 “above the line” and married taxpayers filing jointly can deduct up to $600.
Suspended AGI Limitation for Donors Who Itemize
Prior to the CARES Act and extension for 2021, individuals who make cash contributions to public charities may deduct up to 60% of their adjusted gross income (AGI). For cash qualified contributions made in 2021, you can elect to deduct up to 100% percent of your AGI.
Most importantly, please know that regardless if you wish to discuss planning options for a complex gift or if you simply want to chat more about the impact of your donation–no matter the size–we would love the opportunity to connect with you. Don’t hesitate to email Delta’s Director of Development and Communications, Sidney Freitag-Fey, by clicking here to set up time for a meeting or phone call. Also, if you are considering making a planned gift or any of the complex gifts listed above, we also recommend you consult your attorney and/or financial planner throughout the process. If you are ready to make a financial commitment today, please join me in supporting Delta Institute by giving online.
Thank you for investing in the Midwest!
