  • Woodlawn Community Juneteenth Celebration and BioBlitz

    Please join Blacks in Green and Delta Institute for our Woodlawn Community Juneteenth Celebration and BioBlitz! We have identified several vacant sites in the Woodlawn community that can be converted to GI and become part of the West Woodlawn's Sustainable Square Mile pilot. Citizen scientists who participate in the BioBlitz will not only collect valuable data about the species present in the area prior to GI installation but will also learn about GI and help Blacks in Green and Delta Institute envision what sustainable and inclusive development in Woodlawn should look like.

  • BOOST 2023: A Special Anniversary Celebrating Sustainability & Entrepreneurship

    This year, we will host BOOST as part of a special year-long anniversary commemorating Delta Institute's 25th anniversary of collaborating with communities across the Midwest to solve complex, environmental challenges as a 501c3 nonprofit organization. We will be sharing more details about the anniversary details, including BOOST, in the weeks to come. For now, please save the date of October 24 for BOOST 2023 to join us in person in Chicago or online as a hybrid event!

    Are you, or someone you know, passionate about advancing innovative solutions to sustainability in the Midwest? Consider applying to become a Delta Emerging Leader (DEL)! DELs serve as the official associate board of Delta Institute. We are looking for stellar emerging professionals to join this fun and rewarding associate board for a one-year term beginning in July 1, 2024. Applications will be accepted from March 20th until May 6th. What you can expect as a DEL: Monthly evening meetings with other DELs, about 60-90 minutes each; Service on one of three committees with committee meetings scheduled as needed; Organize, promote, and fundraise for two annual events: BOOST in the Fall and Green Soapbox in the Spring; Leadership opportunities to chair committees, events, and liaison roles with Delta's governing board; There is no set amount for "membership dues" or "minimum contribution," though we do ask that all DELs self-determine an amount they wish to donate throughout the year (Delta Institute is […]

  • Michigan Soil Health Land Valuation Webinar

    Delta Institute has spent the last several years engaging landowners, land managers, and farmers to implement conservation practices on working lands in Michigan to improve environmental outcomes. Michigan farmers may improve soil health and protect local water quality by adopting soil conservation practices, such as cover crops or no-till. However, financial uncertainties associated with land management changes may prevent some farmers from adopting these practices. Join us on Zoom for the kick-off of an innovative pilot program! Therefore, Delta Institute is working with Michigan farm appraisers and soil conservationists to factor measurements of soil health into the land valuation process. If soil health can be considered as a property characteristic by appraisers, Michigan farmers may be incentivized to adopt soil conservation practices to increase the value of their land.
