Urban Wood Utilization Best Management Practices

Unfortunately, storm damage and invasive species are threatening the vitality of many trees throughout our urban forests. While these damaged trees need to be removed and can no longer provide environmental benet to the community, there are a number of opportunities for these trees to continue to add value to our communities. Urban wood is a term used to describe all wood harvested from trees in urban and suburban areas and small towns rather than from forests. Reclaiming and using urban wood is known as wood utilization.
